Three months after the Stadium opened, a free variety concert was held for the community. The event was to help celebrate the 150th birthday of the Otago Daily Times, and to thank the people of Otago for their support.

It was a festive affair, starting with a family picnic on the pitch in the afternoon, and finishing with a rock concert in the evening featuring singers, dancers and musicians from Dunedin and further afield, who kept the 20,000 crowd well entertained.

Donations received at the concert were given to KidsCan Charitable Trust, Dunedin North and Toroa Lions, and to the Big Night In Charities Ltd to go towards the night’s expenses.
