Relay for Life Raises over $250k
Over 1,000 people came together to lap Forsyth Barr Stadium in support of the Cancer Society
Forsyth Barr Stadium became a sea of purple and hope on Saturday as thousands of walkers, runners and supporters gathered for the annual Relay For Life, celebrating cancer survivors, remembering loved ones, and raising funds for the Cancer Society.
Teams from across Otago, representing schools, community groups, workplaces and families, circled the stadium track from afternoon into the evening, symbolising the continuous fight against cancer. The event opened with a survivors’ lap, led by people who have experienced cancer firsthand, followed by a carers’ lap in recognition of those who provide vital support.
The event raised over $250,000 and the funds raised will support local Cancer Society services, including patient support, health promotion and cancer prevention programmes, as well as contributing to national cancer research efforts.
