At Forsyth Barr Stadium, we’re serious about reducing our environmental footprint. From cutting carbon emissions to managing waste and building sustainable partnerships, we're taking action today to protect tomorrow.
We’re committed to reducing the greenhouse gases (GHGs) we’re responsible for emitting — and we’re backing that up with real targets and action.
Our goals:
42% reduction in controllable emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 2030 (per 1,000 attendees), using FY 2018–19 as our baseline. This target aligns with the Science-Based Targets initiative.
Measure and reduce Scope 3 emissions, working closely with suppliers to understand and improve their environmental impact. A formal Scope 3 target will be in place by the end of 2024.Achieve net zero emissions by 2030.
How we’ll get there:
Partner with key suppliers to reduce emissions generated at our events.
Upgrade energy systems at Forsyth Barr Stadium with automation and smart sensors to cut energy use.
Reduce emissions from staff travel and optimise refrigeration systems to lower their environmental impact.
Our goal is to reduce landfill waste from events by 45% per 1,000 attendees by 2030.
Our approach:
Maximise recycling and composting — including unused food.
Educate patrons and suppliers on how they can help reduce waste.
Minimise excess production and procurement to avoid unnecessary waste at the source.
We choose to work with suppliers and partners who share our commitment to sustainability. All partnerships are aligned with DVML’s environmental goals and values — and together, we’re driving change.
